Many consider the triangular facial shape achieved with high cheekbones an essential component of classic beauty. As we age, the skin and supporting tissues of the face start to sag, diminishing whatever triangular shape nature gave us.
Cheek Augmentation surgery can change the basic shape and balance of the face by making cheekbones more prominent. Although any patient can undergo Cheek Augmentation, it is most commonly requested in women between the ages of 19 and 40. The Cheek Augmentation procedure results in no visible scarring. The implants, once they are in place, look and feel natural. The cosmetic result of an augmentation procedure is stronger and more defined cheekbones that contribute to a more triangular facial shape. This result is immediate and lasts a lifetime.
Procedure
During the Cheek Augmentation procedure, Dr. Barr inserts the implant through a small incision placed in the gums of the upper lip on the left and right side. Implants are placed into their proper anatomic position and secured. The implant is custom ordered to address the individual patient's specific situation. The Cheek Augmentation procedure can be performed under either general anaesthetic or local anaesthesia with sedation.
The Post-Operative Course
Cheek Augmentation is an outpatient procedure. After surgery, patients will develop some swelling for a period of 3 to 5 days. Patients will be required to consume only soft foods during this first 5 days, after which they can resume normal food intake. Patients are up and around within 1 or 2 days, and usually back to work within 3 to 5 days. Any residual swelling usually subsides completely within 7 to 10 days.
Only light activities should be undertaken for the first 3 weeks after surgery, after which time full activities, including heavy lifting, can be resumed.
Concurrent Procedures
Cheek Augmentation can be combined with any other type of aesthetic procedure.
